To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nas' classic debut album Illmatic, I teamed up with my colleagues at NahRight, UpNorthTrips, and Blame The Label to release a tribute mixtape featuring modern-day New York MCs rapping over classic Illmatic instrumentals. It was an idea birthed from a brainstorm session with my close friend Evan Auerbach at UNT, who executive produced the project with me. The tape was picked up by every major hip-hop site you can think of, and remains an important piece of the Illmatic legacy. Thank you Nas for the inspiration.
