During the ‘22/’23 sports season, I had the chance to create two :30 television ads starring our very own Caesar aka JB Smoove.
The first was a quick-turn challenge that came to my team—an ask to create a TV spot that would run in DC for the new Guy Fieri’s restaurant that was opening up inside our Sportsbook location at Capital One Arena. During our team brainstorm, I came up with the concept “I Got a Guy,” which was Caesar letting DC know that he had just the guy to bring the flavor to Caesars Sportsbook for the new season. The concept was a hit internally, and our lead ACD on the team banged out the perfect script with a Kenny Mayne voiceover and all the next day. Luckily, we were able to get on site literally the same week we sold in the concept and script with the local Monumental team who was filming (and JB who just happened to be on tour in DC that weekend!), dig up some solid Guy Fieri footage from a previous shoot, and the rest is history, people! This second spot was a little trickier. We were tasked with creating a national TV spot promoting our new Quick Picks offerings on the homepage of the app. The problem was, we had no time to film anything, and our CMO wanted it on-air by the start of the NFL playoffs. So I had an idea—what if we use highlights from previous commercials and position Quick Picks as Caesar’s latest invention that he’s bringing to the people. Once again, the concept was sold in quickly, along with a script that I co-wrote with our lead ACD, and we teamed up with our production partners at NFL films to get the spot done (with animation) in two weeks—just in time for the playoffs.
