The NYU School of Professional Studies Real World program gives both undergrad and grad students the chance to spend a semester working with a world class brand on a business challenge and ultimately presenting creative ideas to that brand for the possibility to have them actually implemented into their marketing plans.
As an NYU Real World adjunct professor, I’ve had the opportunity to lead grad school classes with Rizzoli and Ticketmaster. And I also spent one semester on the client side during my time working as a creative director at Caesars Sportsbook (which I’ve written about in a separate post).
The program has personally given me a chance to share the experience and skills I’ve gained professionally over the past decade working on the agency and brand side, and work directly with grad students as they spend the semester developing creative strategies and concepts to pitch to clients. See pic above from the students’ pitch to Ticketmaster, live from beautiful Ticketmaster / Live Nation board room.
Not only am I in the classroom every week guiding the students as they develop their group presentations, but I’m designing the course from the ground up, establishing the partnership between NYU Real World and the brand, writing the syllabus, creating the brief, scheduling the guest speakers and field trips, giving verbal and written feedback at different stages of the semester, and fostering relationships between the students and the clients.
It has truly been one of the most interesting, challenging, and rewarding experiences of my professional life, and I look forward to more semesters ahead. Highlights below.
Ticketmaster
Check out some pics from the Fall ‘24 NYU Real World Ticketmaster semester, including more pics from our student white paper sessions and final pitches at the Ticketmaster / Live Nation office, as well as a field trip to Ticketmaster partner NYCFC’s new stadium experience which is used as a tool to sell in sponsorships to new and existing team partners.
Rizzoli
And here are some pics from the Fall ‘23 NYU Real World Rizzoli semester I co-taught with my co-author Evan Auerbach, including pics of the final student presentations, guest Rizzoli author speakers Vikki Tobak and Elena Romera, and a couple shots from our field trip to the Do Remember! launch party at Kith in Brooklyn.
